The Dynamic Trio
[metaslider id=515]
Mel began his photo career at the age of 16. His older brother, Perry Finkelstein, set him up with his first camera. Perry devised a police car radio set up in his car and the two brothers would often reach the scene before the police. While Mel would shoot still photos, Perry would shoot film footage for World Press Newsreel.
Mel’s girlfriend at the time, soon to be his wife and life long partner, Janet would do the reporting. The three novice freelancers soon became a well known trio whose images and stories began to appear on the new stands. Before long Mel became a Staff Photographer at the Journal American. His zest to get a good story through telling images began at the age of 16 and stayed with him until his death in 1992.
With his camera at his side at all moments, there was hardly an image of life’s journeys that Mel did not capture. He truly told life’s story through his camera’s lens.
